Woodgate, Burrum Coast National Park

Coastal lowland remnants and long, sandy beaches are protected in this section of Burrum Coast National Park between the mouth of the Gregory River and Woodgate.

Remnants of the many vegetation types found in the coastal lowlands can be seen in this section of the park, from mangrove-lined riverbanks to pockets of livistona palm forests, eucalypt and angophora forests and woodlands, wallum heath and paperbark swamps. The park contains plants found only in this local area, such as the rare or threatened Eucalyptus hallii, Melaleuca cheelii and Macrozamia lomandroides.

Exploring Woodgate

Relax and enjoy this coastal retreat away from the crowds. Picnic at Walkers Point or Hoppy Lark’s Creek. Toilets are provided just outside the park at Walker’s Point. Please do not feed the kangaroos. They can become aggressive when fed.

Canoe across the river. Try your luck at fishing. Go birdwatching. You might see spoonbills, ibis, pelicans, ducks or jabiru from the birdhide over a wetland off Walkers Point Road. See stunning wildflowers in spring along the Banksia track or road to Hoppy Lark’s Creek.

Camp behind the beach at Burrum Point. This camping area is suitable for tents, campervans and small caravans. Individual campsites, toilets, town water, cold showers and a pulley system for solar showers are provided. Take a fuel stove. Pay your camping fees onsite. Book six months in advance for the school holidays as campsites are limited. Remove your rubbish to the transfer station outside the park.
