Culture

Holidays on the Fraser Coast are more than just sun and sand. Look further and you’ll discover that the region’s cultural heart beats loud and strong.

The Hervey Bay Regional Gallery features works by local artists and regularly hosts Australian and international traveling exhibitions.

Maryborough’s Brolga Theatre is one of the best and largest regional venues in Queensland, with an on-going calendar of cultural events including concerts, dancing and opera. Many of the most popular artists in Australia and around the world have performed on the Brolga’s stage, while several local theatre companies use the Brolga for their season of plays and musicals.

Pick any weekend, and you’re sure to find a bustling market on the Fraser Coast, brimming with locally-produced wares, produce and plants. Wander through the stalls, chat with the locals and pick up a bargain or two.

Every Thursday morning, the central streets of Maryborough are closed for the award-winning Heritage City Markets. Two main streets are closed and colourful stalls and music take over from the traffic. Residents and visitors flock to the city for fresh fruit and vegetables straight from the farm, and a range of other arts, crafts and bric-a-brac.
