Fishing

Fishing at Hervey Bay Fish in the Great Sandy Strait are plentiful — the mangrove-lined creeks and sheltered turquoise waters can yield an amazing catch, including bream, whiting, flathead, mackeral, tailor and mangrove jack.

Fish from the shore, or launch your tinnie from the boat ramps located in the quiet, restful villages that border the Great Sandy Strait south of Maryborough, including Maaroom, Boonooroo, Tuan, Poona and Tinninbar.

Take a charter and try your hand at sportsfishing, or just the cruise the Great Sandy Strait and drop a line over the side.

The seaside villages north of Hervey Bay are also perfect for fishing. The Burrum River is teeming with a variety of species, and the towns that lie near the banks of the Burrum, including Howard and Burrum Heads, are popular fishing locations. Toogoom is also a favourite for fisherman.

There is excellent freshwater fishing at Lenthalls Dam, just 5 kilometres south-west of Torbanlea, with barramundi, perch and yellowbelly regularly caught.  Facilities include barbecues, picnic shelter, walking tracks and a boat ramp.
