Fraser Island AccessSelf-drive A Four Wheel Drive vehicle is essential on Fraser Island, as all roads are sand tracks. Reasonable under-vehicle clearance is also required. Take your own vehicle, or 4WD hire vehicles are available from Hervey Bay, Kingfisher Bay Resort and Village, Brisbane and Rainbow Beach. Off-road camper trailers are allowed on Fraser Island; however, caravans are discouraged. All vehciles must have a Vehicle Permit to arriving on Fraser Island. Safe Driving Tips
Guided Tours One, two, and three-day escorted 4WD tours depart daily from Hervey Bay and Rainbow Beach. Tours also depart from major accommodation resorts on Fraser Island. Air Air charters and transfers to Fraser Island depart from Hervey Bay Airport. Fixed-wing aircraft can land on grass airstrips located across the island, or they can land on 75 Mile Beach at Happy Valley and Eurong. Helicopters can land at designated helipads around the island. All air charters and transfers should be pre-booked. Water Vehicular barges and passenger ferries operate regular services each day to various points on the island. Private boats can moor off the island with tender transfers to land, or there are jetty facilities dotted around the island’s shores. Bookings are essential for all barges, except those leaving from Inskip Point, which generally operate continuously during daylight hours. There is no bridge to the island. |
